CEU: Disinfecting Lighting

  • Springfield Electric Lighting & Design 902 Four Seasons Road Bloomington, IL 61701 (map)

Lighting technology continues to advance, creating a pathway that allows today’s lighting products to provide much more to the building occupants beyond illumination.

With LED technology, chip developers can harness specific wavelengths that promote health and wellbeing to the people who live, work, and play in these built environments.

Through luminaire design and proper application, it is possible to utilize a bacteria-killing lighting technology that not only provides comfortable illumination, but also combats common pervasive bacteria without harming humans.

Learning Objectives:

  • Comprehend the current impact of harmful bacteria on our lives

  • Understand the science behind visible light disinfection

  • Explore the evidence that lighting is a viable means for disinfection

  • Learn how to apply visible light disinfection technology
