Description
LED lighting technology is significantly different from “traditional” technologies that have dominated the lighting industry for decades. The small, intense diode sources in LED lighting render very differently on certain finishes than other lighting sources. Finish color can also render differently when the same material is lit by LED lights versus incandescent or fluorescent lights, even if the sources have the same color temperature. The intensity of the LED diodes also impacts the appearance of textures and glare of finishes.
This seminar will address the emerging relationship between LED lighting and finish selection through the following discussion items:
An introduction to why finishes can react differently to LED technology
A demonstration of common pitfalls that occur with improper pairing of finishes and LED lighting
Recommendations for finish selection and collaboration topics to discuss with lighting designers and electrical engineers
The samples used during the demonstration portion of the presentation, have been designed to show a clear, demonstrable affect from different settings with the LED lights. Because of this, they are fairly generic which Schuler Shook created themselves. They encompass a few paint samples, a few wood stain samples, and texture and reflective samples.
An interactive display will be included with the presentation, allowing participants to compare additional finishes lit by LED and non-LED lighting sources. Participants will be able to adjust distance between source and finish, incidence angle for grazing lighting, and impact of color temperature. If desired, participants can even bring samples of their own finishes to test under the lighting display.
*We encourage you to bring any of your own finishes if you'd like to demo them.
