Check out our newest Summer event! Join us in kicking off the new Frankly Speaking Lecture Series with Chicago’s own, Gary Lee as the speaker! Each year we highlight the career of one talented individual who proves that the Power of Design can cross disciplines, definitions, cultures, and continents and enrich our profession and our lives. Their experiences inspire and teach us all how to unwrap ourselves from our immediate sphere of influence and soak in the benefits of different viewpoints.

Who is Gary Lee
Gary Lee is a designer of workplace, residential, hospitality interiors as well as furniture, casegoods, rugs, textiles, leathers, and lighting for product manufacturers. Gary serves a diverse array of design consumers from professional service firms, corporations, and creative agencies to luxury hotels, restaurants, and private residences.
Gary is the founder and current president of Gary Lee Partners (an interior design firm), Gary Lee Studios (a product design firm), and Chai Ming Studios (a furniture company), and the recently opened Atelier Gary Lee (luxury furniture showroom in Chicago’s Merchandise Mart). Previously, he served as National Director of Design for ISI, Officer-in-Charge at ISD, Creative Director at Niedermeier, and Design Manager at Continental Illinois National Bank.
Gary is an inductee to the Interior Design Hall of Fame and a former Contract magazine Designer of the Year. He is the recipient of numerous awards and accolades for design and leadership from organizations including IIDA, AIA, World Architecture, and The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.
Gary has participated on various design juries and panels including IIDA, AIA, SOM Foundation, and Cranbrook Institute. His advocacy for a strong, practical design education led him to act as a university guest lecturer. He also served on the Art Chicago Host Committee and was a Board of Directors member for the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, DIFFA Chicago, and Chicago House among others.
